The information behind city permits at construction sites and restaurants will soon be at New Yorkers' fingertips.
The City Council passed legislation that requires city permits come equipped with a code that can be scanned by smartphones.
In a demonstration at City Hall, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn showed that all a passerby has to do is snap a photo of the barcode with a smart phone and the permit information will immediately come up.
The service will later expand to other areas, including parades.
