Activists are preparing to mark one year since the death of Private Danny Chen, a Manhattan soldier who was allegedly hazed by other troops before he committed suicide in Afghanistan.
Organizers announced plans Monday to commemorate Chen, who took his own life October 3, 2011.
Supporters are preparing a variety of ways to remember the 19-year-old soldier.
They are organizing a national call-in campaign to pressure Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to confront the problem of hazing in the military.
There will be also be a vigil in Union Square.
Supporters are being urged to travel to North Carolina for the remaining three court martials of the eight soldiers charged in Chen's death.
Five have been convicted, but only one has been discharged from the Army.
