Passengers with disabilities can now hail a wheelchair-accessible taxi cab using the city's new "Accessible Dispatch" program.

Riders who use wheelchairs can request one of the city's fleet of 233 accessible cabs and get picked up anywhere in Manhattan at no extra charge.

It uses taxi-tracking technology to locate the nearest accessible cab and will direct the driver to pick up the passenger.

"The taxi system has really been unavailable to wheelchair users forever, for decades," said Taxi and Limousine Commissioner David Yassky.

"It gives us an opportunity to get around the city much easier. It's very difficult if you're a wheelchair user," said Michelle Duprey, who uses a wheelchair.

Riders should:
• Call 311.
• Call the dispatch center at 1-646-599-9999.
• Text a request to 1-646-400-0789.
• Use the "Wheels on Wheels" mobile app.
• Order a cab at nycaccessibledispatch.org.

The city had proposed a five-borough taxi plan for an additional 2,000 accessible cabs, but a judge put that plan on hold.
