Just weeks after his embezzlement trial wrapped up, former Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada Jr. was back in court Tuesday.
Espada appeared in federal court in Manhattan, where the start date of a new trial was set for November 5.
The former lawmaker faces tax charges stemming from accusations he stole more than $500,000 from his Soundview Health Network in the Bronx.
The judge also gave Espada until July 9 to hire lawyers.
Last month, jurors convicted Espada on four counts of theft but failed to reach a verdict on four other charges, as well as on similar charges against Espada's son.
Prosecutors are planning a retrial on those charges.
