New York State's Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act is gaining more momentum after earning another key endorsement.

The trustees of the State University of New York voted unanimously in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday to support the DREAM Act, which would extend financial aid and other educational services to undocumented immigrant students.

Those students would also be able to apply for state IDs and drivers licenses.

Advocates said the SUNY vote sends a strong message to Albany to pass the bill.

"The important thing right now is for all of those of us who support undocumented students to really reach out to their elected officials in Albany to ask them to vote yes on dream legislation," said Jackie Vimo of the New York Immigration Coalition.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Board of Regents have also endorsed the bill, but Governor Andrew Cuomo has yet to take a public stance. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
