After all the polls and prognosticating about Primary Night, don't be surprised if we still don't know who won by Wednesday morning.

In 1997 and in 2005, it appeared on Primary Night that there would be a Democratic runoff in the mayor's race but after some more numbers were crunched by the city's Board of Elections, we learned – days later -- that Ruth Messinger (in 1997) and Fernando Ferrer (in 2005) won their nominations outright, barely capturing 40 percent of the vote and avoiding a runoff.

Bill de Blasio could find himself in a similar situation tomorrow night -- and adding to the confusion is that Bill Thompson and Christine Quinn may be in a very tight battle for second place. It's possible that tomorrow night's numbers will show that Bill de Blasio is in a runoff – but we may not know who his opponent is.

So get coffee – or something stronger – ready. It could be a very long night – or week.
