NY1 ItCH: The Sharks Hit Land For A Week Of Debates On NY1

  • Text size: + -

It's not exactly sharknado week at NY1 – but it might be even more exciting than that if you follow local politics. Here's your quick guide to what we're serving up for you on "The Road to City Hall" over the coming week:

Tonight – Live from CUNY's Graduate Center at 7 p.m., we will be bringing you the Democratic debate in the race for City Comptroller. The idea that Scott Stringer was going to merely serve as a political speed bump for Eliot "The Steamroller" Spitzer has certainly gone out the window. This debate – in front of a live audience – should be very feisty. And we'll have a half-hour wrap-up show at 8 p.m. If you're out partying and you forgot to set your DVR, we will be replaying it at 10 p.m.

Tomorrow night – The Democratic debate for Brooklyn District Attorney. D.A. Charles "Joe" Hynes is in the political fight for his life as he faces off against former federal prosecutor Ken Thompson. Accused of mishandling the prosecution of some key cases over his six terms, the 78-year-old Hynes has been on the defensive for much of the race while Thompson has picked up the support of some influential African-American officials in Brooklyn.

Wednesday night – The Democratic debate for Manhattan Borough President. Four candidates – each with a strong base of political support -- will square off in our studios in a race that's certainly been too close to call.

Thursday night – In front of a live audience, the five Democratic candidates for Public Advocate face off at BAM, the Brooklyn Academy of Music at 7 p.m. While this race has received little attention, it looks to be extremely competitive – with an Oct. 1 runoff a real possibility. We will have a wrap-up show at 8 p.m. and a replay at 10 p.m.

So grab your scorecards and a fresh cronut, this is the real start to the countdown to primary day on Sept. 10th! We're certainly going to need a bigger boat.
