As Anthony Weiner continues his "Keys to the City" tour, one of his proposals should probably not be to insultingly call one of his rivals "grandpa" in a room filled with retired New Yorkers.

Republican George McDonald may have baited him but in a week where Weiner is desperately trying to look brainy instead of pervy, he took the bait. McDonald claims that Weiner touched him on his chest and then – with NY1's Grace Rauh and NY1 Noticias’ Juan Manuel Benitez watching – the two men started jawing at each other before an AARP debate.

McDonald: Don't put your hands on me ever again.?
Weiner: Really? What's going to happen if I do? You're a tough guy now??
McDonald: I am. I can defend myself.?
Weiner: [inaudible]...your anger issues under control.?
McDonald: I don't have any anger issues.?
Weiner: But you do, grandpa.

McDonald lately has been semi-unplugged on the campaign trail, ripping Weiner every chance he can get while sliming rival John Catsimatidis in a NY1 debate last month.

The Doe Fund founder is following the madman theory of politics: act crazy enough and maybe you'll get some attention. (He started screaming "penis" at Weiner supporters following the debate.) And in a race where McDonald is currently in last place in a three-way race and has no campaign cash, maybe the penis card is the only workable strategy he has.

But that doesn't explain Weiner's lapse of judgment. In a day where he wanted to talk about his proposal to reduce alternate side parking, Weiner instead was parked in front of McDonald in a weird and nasty fight. If Weiner wants to somehow get his campaign back on track, he needs to be on his best behavior over the next month. Don't call him Old McDonald. But -- for the record -- he is a grandfather.
