Governor Andrew Cuomo's plan to use water funds to help pay for the new Tappan Zee Bridge has gotten the green light.

The New York State Thruway Authority voted Wednesday to move forward with a $256 million loan over five years.

It comes despite environmental groups' opposition to the plan.

They say it's wrong to finance a bridge with funds that should be used for drinking water and sewage treatment projects.

The Authority plans to request a second loan of the same value as early as next year.

Cuomo's administration says the use of the funds will help minimize tolls on the $3.9 billion structure being built to replace the current bridge which connects Rockland and Westchester counties. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
