The United Nations Security Council called for an "immediate and unconditional humanitarian cease-fire" in Gaza at an emergency meeting held early this morning on Manhattan's East Side.
It comes after a push for a truce fell short, with Israel resuming its military operation against Gaza.
Israel military officials confirmed at least three rockets were fired into Gaza.
They say the strikes followed an early morning rocket attack by Hamas.
The strikes followed a nearly 12 hour pause in fighting.
It came as Muslims in the area began to celebrate Eid, the holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The UN council is urging both sides to fully implement the cease-fire during the holiday period and after.
Since the fighting started nearly three weeks ago, more than 1,000 Palestinians and at least 43 Israeli soldiers have been killed.
