Most fitness experts agree that mixing up an exercise routine can actually result in a better body. NY1's Kafi Drexel filed the following report.

NY1 recently stopped by Equinox Fitness Clubs where a new workout called "Whipped" aims to get gym goers into shape with some high intensity circuit training.

"Basically you are going from station to station doing a lot of different types of movement and one of the stations is the ropes," said Equinox trainer Rachel Buschert. "And when you get on the ropes you are going to realize that heart rate goes way up so it is a great cardio workout, big calorie burner, always switching it up so your body kind of gets surprised. When you do the same thing over and over you kind of stop seeing results."

To keep the results coming, Buschert switches things up using old school kettlebells for weights, steps to deepen those squats and lunges, and a Bosu ball to make push ups even more challenging.

And then there are the ropes. Weighted down by large kettle bells, the ropes are anchored to wave and wrangle those arms into shape.

"I would say it is really a different way to approach upper body training," Buschert said. "Because it is not slow kind of grinding movement. It is really rapid fire, great for toning the upper body muscles."

Each exercise is done in 30 second intervals. But if you think that sounds like a piece of cake, you better think again.

"Seems like it is really short but when you get on that rope, 30 seconds, you are going to be struggling just to hang in to those last five seconds. It's such a short time. So you can really kind of push the limits and see what you can do," Buschert said. "It's a good type of workout to kind of break through plateaus. You're hanging out in intensity that you couldn't do for a long period of time."
