A benefit concert will help a Bogota man who is recovering from a stroke. NY1’s Joanne Santiglia filed the following report.

John Gleason of Bogota suffered a massive stroke last March while driving after leaving work. He stuck a utility pool and three trees. Now five months later, he's wheelchair-bound, unemployed and working hard on rehabilitation.

"My movement in my arm is coming back more. So than the movement in my leg,” said Gleason. “I have to work a little bit more on my leg and there is no guarantee what the results are going to be but you just keep trying, repetition and hope for the best."

Gleason has physical therapy five days a week at the Kessler Institute and must still pay the bills for his family of five.

“We do have a lot of bills coming,” said Gleason’s wife Carol. “Our car insurance said they would pay for some of the bills for secondary insurance, but they are not now, so that's a main concern."

Carol Gleason's boss, Randy Gurian of Fort Lee, wants to help. On August 9, he and some talented friends will hold a benefit concert at the Bogota VFW to help the Gleasons.

Gurian has sponsored previous benefit concerts.

"We started several years ago with the Epiphany Church in Cliffside Park, and last year we did a wonderful benefit for Hackensack Hospital and children with cancer," said Gleason.

Tickets for the August 9th fundraiser are $35. If you would like to attend or to make a donation, call 973-248-6796.
