"Homeland" Premieres Its Second Season At The Intrepid Museum

The second season of "Homeland" recently premiered at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum on Manhattan's West Side. The show stars Claire Danes as a CIA agent with a difficult brain chemistry.

"She's very smart, she's very bold, very risk-taking. She is bipolar, which in the first season she manages, a little capriciously, and she has a breakdown," says Danes. "She's kind of kicked out of the CIA, so we find her in the second season on the outside, and of course they call her back in for various reasons, so she's involved again but in a more peripheral way."

British actor Damian Lewis plays an American veteran returning with post-traumatic stress disorder. He may, or may not, be an enemy agent.

Asked what attracts him to his character, Lewis says, "His ambiguity, very like-life. Life is not black and white, it's gray, and he lives in gray."

Morena Baccarin plays Lewis' wife.

"She's sort of the heart of the show. It's really intriguing to see what happens to somebody when they go away to war, and the family that gets left behind," says Baccarin. "And not only that, when he comes back, he's completely screwed up, and she's got to support him in a sense and support her two kids and she really is a warrior behind this warrior.

To tell you the truth, I didn't see the first season of "Homeland." But after talking to these actors on the red carpet, and them explaining the subtlety and careful way their characters have been drawn, with all the ambiguities, I'm certainly going to check it out.

The second season of "Homeland" premieres on Showtime on September 30.
