Author James Othmer is back, writing under an assumed name "James Conway" for a new type of book.

George Whipple: Do you think there's going to be a new type of genre, financial thrillers?

James Conway: I want to own the new genre of financial thrillers!

As James Othmer, he has written about an industry he knows the best, advertising. In both "Adland" and "The Futurist," he explores the world of Madison Avenue.

But as James Conway, it's all about the numbers.

"The name of the book is 'The Last Trade' and it's a rare thing in the world of finance. It's a book that's actually fun about finance," says Conway. "It takes the proposition, what if some bad guys tried to bring down the U. S. economy? And I worked at a hedge fund as a research fellow for a few years and had access to quite a few people. It was during the housing crisis the idea came about that it very well could happen."

For Conway, the art was bringing the staid world of Wall Street to life.

"It's a thing that's difficult, to make that dry world come to life. You have to focus on plot and you have to focus on character and you have to have plenty of action and people who you can actually cheer for," says Conway. "It's hard to cheer for billionaires, so in that world you have to fine that rare person who is someone whose good-hearted, has ethics, and want the world of."

For now, Conway is just like the rest of us.

"Yes, and I'll be writing as James Othmer as well. Everybody needs two jobs these days," says Conway.
