At this point in time, we've been subjected to every kind of dating show imaginable: hot man seeking woman, hot woman seeking man, hot woman seeking dorky man, little man seeking little woman, gay man seeking gay man, washed up rapper or rock star seeking drunk floozy, and my personal favorite, hot woman seeking a man who wears a mask on his face.

Now, TV Land is trying to cash in on the recent cougar craze with, well, "The Cougar."

"The Cougar," airing Wednesday nights at 10, follows 40-year-old Stacey on her journey – because all reality dating shows are journeys after all – to find a new man from a group of boys, 20-year-olds to be exact.

Can she make a cross-generational love connection with one of the 20 strapping young bucks? Who knows, but she'll sure suck a lot of face along the way. Those who were hoping that "The Cougar" would be a hilarious, campy delight, however, will be severely disappointed.

Aside from the age twist, "The Cougar" is pretty much identical to "The Bachelorette" and every other dating show. The woman makes out with lots of guys, the guys talk smack to each other, and they all go on stupid group dates and take part in inane challenges.

If you love that kind of stuff, then "The Cougar" is definitely for you. In fact, the only way the age discrepancy is really played up in any humorous way is that the boys, uh, men, whatever they are, all are either exceedingly proud about the other older women they have dated, or intensely defensive about their lack of history with more senior ladies, even going so far as to make ridiculous excuses for only dating women their own age or younger.

Unfortunately, that's all that's ridiculous about "The Cougar." The show is bland and harmless fun for fans of the reality dating genre. I just wish it had sharper claws.
