Atlantic City isn't just about gambling, and a new hotel that just opened there aims to prove it. NY1’s Valarie D’Elia filed the following "Travel With Val" report.Atlantic City has just upped the ante on the hipness factor, with a boutique hotel that feels like a Manhattan transplant.
Talk about a metamorphosis. The developers of the Chelsea Hotel in Atlantic City turned a dowdy Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson's into a stylish address along the Atlantic City boardwalk next to the Tropicana.
It's prime real estate for a boutique hotel that is so trendy it doesn't even have casino tables. In fact, it's the first non-gaming resort in 50 years.
The hotel's developers have managed to make a 20-story tower seem intimate. It houses 331 guest rooms and suites, rated "Lite" or "Luxe," and is crowned with a rooftop swimming pool and private cabanas. Of course, a warm weather visit features a fabulous beachfront.
The Chelsea is designed to hold appeal all year long and should be a hotspot despite the weather. The fifth floor is the epicenter for casino-free entertainment and nightlife.
The hotel has not one but two Stephen Starr restaurants: Chelsea Prime, a clubby steakhouse, and Teplitzky's, a mid-century inspired diner. By November, a 10,000-square-foot spa complex is expected to open.
Rates range from $95 to $275 a night in the off-season. For more information, visit www.thechelsea-ac.com.
Now here's a D'Elia's Deal you don't want to miss at the Chelsea in Atlantic City. To celebrate its opening, the Chelsea is offering two-night packages including meals and spa treatments that must be booked by September 30 for travel through the end of December. Rates range from $475.00 to $955.00, depending on the inclusions. Call 1-866-393-3285 for more information.
