Travelers this summer can consider going to some of the hottest and coldest places on Earth. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

When the heat is on in the city, travelers can either turn it up or just chill out with "fire and ice getaways."

If New York is not hot enough for you, consider taking a trip to Cuba, where it’s legal again to travel for educational purposes. One tour operator that has been relicensed under new governmental regulations is Insight Cuba (www.insightcuba.com), with six different itineraries ranging from seven nights to a long weekend in Havana.

Another super hot weekend can be had, in all places, at Ithaca, N.Y., where visitors have the chance to kick up their heels with a 10-feet stroll through a bed of 1,200-degree coals. These firewalking weekends cost $75 per person, and take place in July, September and October. Then soothe those tootsies at a few hotels in the area, with 10 to 20 percent savings on overnight packages. See details at www.IthacaFirewalks.com.

To literally turn the summer around, head to the Southern Hemisphere where it is still winter. Hit the ski slopes of Portillo, in the Chilean Andes, featuring all-inclusive resort pricing on week-long trips with airfare extra. Best deals are in September when kids are free. Visit www.arctictropic.com for more information.

Finally, those who want it both ways should consider taking a trip to Iceland, where glaciers and volcanoes are on the itinerary. Iceland Express (www.icelandexpress.com), the low-fare airline, has budget flights from Newark when the island-nation stays light for the longest, through August.
