Fans of the television show “Family Guy” can get a taste of the Griffin’s world with a visit to Rhode Island. NY1’s Valarie D’Elia filed the following Travel with Val report.

The road to Rhode Island is now dotted with sites that may have inspired the Emmy-nominated animated Fox series “Family Guy.” And all a fan has to do is stop by the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center in Pawtucket to pick up a free road trip map or download one from their site.

“It’s fictitious, it’s a cartoon, but I think there’s enough there to build on,” says Bob Billington of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.

You can visit specific sites you see on the show, such as Newport mansions, McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, any one of many Del’s lemonade stands, the Brown University gates, and Wes’ Rib House, of the bumper sticker featured on the show “I Lost My Self Respect At Wes’ Rib House.”

One thing you won’t find on the map is Quahog.

“Quahog is not a town, it’s not even a village here in Rhode Island,” explains Billington. “It’s a clam.”

A couple of places are loosely based on the series. The closest thing to Pawtucket Brewery is Coastal Extreme Brewing that makes Newport Storm beer.
Happy Go Lucky Toys isn’t real, but it’s a knock off of Hasbro, where you can visit a life-size statue of Mr. Potato Head. Another life-size statue, of a Big Rooster, recalls Peter’s constant battles with the state bird.

Spooner Street is the address for the Griffin’s house, and there is one in Providence that makes a great photo op.

Co-executive producer Danny Smith grew up in Rhode Island, and his brother says it all hits pretty close to home.

“Really funny, every once in a while you hear a name come up on ‘Family Guy’ or your old girlfriend’s name, or one of his old girlfriend’s names, or one of our old teachers or principals, and people will go, ‘Oh, I knew that guy!’” says Danny Smith’s brother Steve Smith.
