Newport, Rhode Island shifts into high gear in July and August and there are at least three ways from Sunday to enjoy a quick getaway. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

Midweek getaways are usually the most cost-effective way to travel to a highfalutin' destination, and that's the case with Rhode Island's coastal icon, Newport. The Newport Marriott, located on the busy harborfront, just opened a roomy spa. To celebrate, it's introducing a hotel package for Sunday through Thursday stays starting at $199 a night along with a $125 spa credit. Guests also have access to the indoor pool and fitness center. For more information, visit www.newportmarriott.com and request code ZJO.

It can take about four hours to drive to Newport from New York, but if you don't have a car, here is a convenient option that provides roundtrip Amtrak tickets from Penn Station to Kingston with transfers to your B&B. The "East Coast Shuffle" package includes a two night stay either at the Jail House Inn or Yankee Peddler. A host of perks includes a harbor tour on either a motor yacht or schooner, a two day bike rental and a $60 credit toward dinner at the Clarke Cooke House and continental breakfast each morning. Rates start at $699 midweek for double occupancy stays. For more information, visit www.atlanticstars.com.

For something more on the sophisticated side, the Castle Hill Inn & Resort, a Relais and Chateaux property, is fixed on a bluff with drop-dead views of Naragansett Bay. "The Simply Summer Anytime Package" features a two night stay for two, a visit to a Newport Mansion, dinner one evening, breakfast each morning as well as afternoon tea. Packages start at $1,500 midweek. For more information, visit www.castlehillinn.com.
