In the final part of this week's series looking back at highlights from the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, NY1's Adam Balkin rounds up some gadgets that, while a little off the beaten path, may still prove to be quite useful.Lots of technology you could easily do without: You don't need it, but you sometimes want it so badly you certain feel as if it's essential. Like if you're a guitarist, how would you like to tune your strings once and that's it -- for the entire life of the strings. That's what EverTune offers.
"It works by a very simple technology that is a spring keeping the string at the same constant tension so when you're pulling on your note it's pulling back with the exact tension holding perfect pitch," explains Mark Chayet of EverTune.
Helping to create the more perfect at-home cameraman, you can now stick your mobile phone into the Swivl, start recording video and then stick a marker on whoever it is you want to shoot and where her or she goes the Swivl swivels to follow.
"If you're trying to shoot a video of yourself presenting something this is a perfect device for you. If you have kids and just want to capture your kids playing around you can do it with our device," says Vlad Tetelbaum of Swivl.
For capturing memories in a unique way, there's the Sony 3D digital binoculars. And the fact that they're 3D isn't necessarily the only thing that makes them different from most other binoculars. You can also capture whatever it is you're looking as an immersive video clip.
"So instead of saying, 'Oh I saw this thing', you can show your friends in 3D or in 2D, it does grab still photos as well," explains Amy Koppmann of Sony Electronics.
And finally, to fully immerse yourself in 3D, 360-degree entertainment like videogames, there's Sensics Smart Goggles.
"It's got sensors on the front that can do hand and head tracking so you're immersed in a scene you can move your head 360-degrees you can play games without having to be connected to a PC or console. But you can also connect to a PC or console or phone or tablet," says Jason Kaplan of Sensics.
And while any content can be seen though the goggles, games or movies will have to be developed specially for this system in order to be fully interactive, augmented reality.
