Innovative new toys are looking to light up the holiday season — literally. NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report. It's all around us every day, but light looks to be a hot seller this coming holiday season, at least according to the Time to Play showcase.
For starters, there’s “Lite Sprites,” a playset featuring little ladies who live in the world of “Lightopia.” What makes this world special is that children can grab a wand and, by touching the bottom to just about anything, they can scan in that color, save that color in light form, and then turn anything in Lightopia that color.
“There's a sensor in the bottom of the light wand that actually reads the color, breaks it down into various components, various values, and then recreates it and sends it through the magic of infrared,” says Amy Weldman of WowWee.
Available now, the starter kit with the wand, a sprite, and her pod costs around $30.
On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the “SpyNet Night Vision Watch” for around $60. It can shoot video without surrounding light.
“You can take stealth video, stealth pictures, audio and now you can do it in complete darkness. You can upload it to your computer and SpynetHQ.com, where you can analyze all your evidence. We have applications like lie detector or voice analysis,” says Anne Marie Feliciano of Jakks Pacific.
There's also an old toy that has a new way of playing with light: an Ant Farm.
It's Uncle Milton's “Ant Farm Revolution,” and it costs around $30.
“As you can see, the light system projects to a fresnel lens and your ants project about six feet to your ceiling in the dark. Pretty wild,” says Dave Malacrida of Uncle Milton.
Finally, there’s the “FyrFlyz,” which is like a two-handed yo-yo infused with colorful light.
“Just by spinning it around, the toy winds up on itself on the string and creates these amazing patterns in the air,” says Joel Rosenzweig of i-Star Entertainment.
This one is also light on the wallet at just about $9.
