The American rock musical "Hair" returned to Broadway last night at the Al Hirschfeld Theater.

After a successful run last summer in Central Park's Delacorte Theatre, this revival marks the first Broadway staging of the show in more than 30 years.

The production is directed by Diane Paulus, the sister of NY1's General Manager Steve Paulus.

"It's a dream come true," said the director. "My Broadway debut with 'HAIR,' what could be better? I'm just so excited to be doing this show right now on Broadway, in New York, bringing it to audiences. It's a total love fest out there. It's so rejuvenating and life affirming."

Actors Gavin Creel and Will Swenson lead the cast, playing the characters of Claude and Berger.

"This production and this cast has been the best experience I've had in the theater yet," said Creel. "I just feel like reborn. It's just an awesome group of people and an incredible creative team. Just an amazing opening night tonight, amazing audience; they were with us."

"It's relevant," added Swenson. "This summer it was pertinent because we were in the middle of a heated election with an unpopular president in the middle of an unpopular war. Those were all things that were happening in 1967 when 'HAIR' was first done; those things resonate now."
