The job of handicapping Tony winners is Nice Work If You Can Get It but this year requires a huge Leap Of Faith because Once you weigh the competition, you realize the News eez going to be impossible to predict.

And so in the all-important category of Best Musical, who ya gonna read about Monday morning? It's either "Newsies," the family friendly fare from Disney or the artfully off-beat "Once." It's going to be close but I think "Newsies" will grab the headline.

A similar showdown looms among the Best Play contenders and it's down to The Pulitzer Prize-winning "Clybourne Park" vs. the long-running "Other Desert Cities." Both are worthy but the Tony will prefer the "...Park" to the "...Cities".

As for Best Play Revival. "Arthur Miller's Death Of a Salesman" goes head to head with "Gore Vidal's The Best Man" which is likely to be second best Tony night as the oft-revived "Death Of A Salesman" will once again take home the top prize.

Two stunning productions dominate the Best Musical Revival category: "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" and Sondheim's "Follies." Ironically, a Sondheim-sparked controversy last year may give Follies the happier ending.

Among the men vying for Best Actor in a Play, it's between James Corden in the hysterical British import "One Man Two Guvnors," Philip Seymour Hoffman's shattering turn as Willy Loman in Death Of A Salesman" and a true "Best Man" James Earl Jones. Great actors all but the most attention will be paid to Mr. Hoffman.

Best Actress in a Play is also up for grabs. British star Tracie Bennett channeling Judy Garland in "End Of the Rainbow" and Venus in Fur's Nina Arianda competing against veterans Stockard Channing of "Other Desert Cities" and Linda Lavin in "The Lyons". Bennett I think will be over the rainbow on Tony night.

Actors in a musical pits Danny Burstein in "Follies" opposite Once's Steve Kazee and Norm Lewis as Porgy. But "Newsies" star Jeremy Jordan will be the one to make the big news.

And finally, she's already got plenty of Tonys but look for "Porgy and Bess" star Audra McDonald to make history with her fifth Tony win.

I can honestly say this is the most difficult Tonys to predict in many years and I'm fully prepared to be wrong on most of what I just said. On the plus side, how nice to have some genuine suspense for a change. It only adds to the excitement on Tony night.
