Nearly 100 theaters are giving out free tickets to performances at Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway and independent theaters throughout the city.

The program, which receives funding from the city, is part of a nationwide initiative to support the arts and introduce new audiences to stage productions.

Last year, theaters in the five boroughs offered more than 7,500 free tickets to some 450 performances.
