A recent medical study finds that a dietary supplement long promoted as a memory aid does not apparently prevent dementia or Alzheimer's.

Researchers studied the effects of Ginkgo biloba on more than 3,000 senior citizens.

Half of the study group was given the supplement and the other half a placebo.

After six years, researchers say they saw practically no difference between the two groups.

The study appears in Thursday's Journal of the American Medical Association.
