Actor Karl Malden, 97, Dies

Veteran character actor Karl Malden has died at 97 years old.

Malden's best known acting role was as Michael Douglas' partner on the 1970s television show "The Streets of San Francisco."

He was also made famous by the "Don't leave home without them" advertisements for American Express.

His more than 50 film credits include "On the Waterfront," "Patton" and "A Streetcar Named Desire" – for which he earned a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

Malden's family says he died of natural causes at his home in Brentwood, California.
