Fashion Week is here and while the shows give us a glimpse of what we can look forward to in the spring, style experts say you should keep your eyes peeled for what's hot this fall. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

The biggest fashion mistake you can make during Fashion Week for spring 2013 is forgetting about fall 2012. In fact, while everyone else is looking at the runway stylist George Brescia says to look around you.

"Everyone comes to the spring shows in current fall trends and fashions. Everyone comes in beautiful fall clothes. Just outside the shows at Lincoln Center, if you just stand there, there's your fall fashion show," Brescia says.

NY1 asked Brescia and designer Rolando Santana's what's trending right now besides the term "trending".

"Black and blue, the two colors together which I think are gorgeous. Leather is really happening. You're seeing a lot of texture, you know boucle jackets, jackets with texture. Of course ruffle, you're seeing metallic you're still seeing sparkle," Brescia says.

"I think people want to be happy, ya know, and to add a little bit of sparkle to their life. Why not wear a beautiful dress that gives you that extra light," says Santana. "Even sparkle that is appropriate for daytime. So you can wear an accent of sequins whether it's a belt, something that is very subdued. You know you're not going to show up to work with sparkle from head to toe but you can have something that compliments your outfit."

When it comes to the asymmetrical looks, figure out you're best body part and then accentuate it.

"You do something asymmetrical that shows it, whether it's a shoulder, whether it's one arm. And so you take the trend and you really fit it to your body and your needs," Brescia says.

For the big night out, Brescia says it's important that you wear the dress, and that the dress doesn't wear you.

"A dress on a hanger kind of means nothing so when you're doing the big night out and you're trying on a bunch of dresses make sure you absolutely try every single one on. Even one that might not look good to you on the hanger but maybe appeals to you because something on is so different from something on a hanger," says Brescia.
