New Caribbean Cultural Exhibit Spans Three City Museums

The new exhibit "Caribbean: Crossroads Of The World," which is being presented at three city museums, is bringing four centuries of Caribbean history and culture to New Yorkers.
The exhibit, which is being shown at the El Museo del Barrio in East Harlem, the Queens Museum of Art and the Studio Museum in Harlem, features 500 works of Caribbean art.
Organizers say the ambitious collaboration was necessary to showcase the full influence of the Caribbean on many races.
"This is a first. This is a study of the Caribbean from so many different aspects, but most importantly, the history of that region told through the artistic production that region realized," said Margarita Aguilar, the executive director of El Museo del Barrio.
"Many of these communities actually have links to the Caribbean and New York is one-third Caribbean and is actually the largest Caribbean city in the world," said project director Elvis Fuentes.
The exhibit runs through October 12 at the Studio Museum in Harlem and through January 6, 2013 at the other two museums.
