The Metropolitan Opera sold 24,087 single tickets for its new season, an opening day sales record.
The box office record, more than $2.6 million, is good news for the Met, which has struggled financially in recent years.
It's an increase of about 1.3 percent over last year's record 23,766 opening-day tickets.
A new production of Wagner's "Das Rheingold" kicks off the new season on September 27th.
