An actor was found dead last week in his Brooklyn apartment from an apparent suicide.

John Costelloe, 47, was made famous in his short role as "Johnny Cakes" on the HBO hit "The Sopranos," where he played a gay firefighter.

Costelloe also starred in the off-Broadway production of "Gang of Seven."

The show's playwright said he noticed Costelloe's performance was off in his final shows.

Police say he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on December 18.

Family members and friends, including "Sopranos" co-stars, say they are shocked by his death.
