Some of the city's hospitals are feeling the pinch in the ailing economy.

Saint Vincent's Comprehensive HIV Center in Manhattan is facing funding cuts, which will eliminate a highly-effective and free treatment program for those potentially exposed to the disease.

The center plans to appeal the city's decision, saying HIV prevention is key in New York City, where infection rates are three times the national average.

The Department of Health says these services are available in other places in the city and only a small number of people use the complete program at St. Vincent's.
