Talk about trying to pull your weight. Operation Brawlic, a new training program out of Reebok Sports Club/NY, aims to put your strength to the test with old-school sandbag pulls, ropes, medicine balls and just some good-old fashioned sweat.

Former Penn State strength coach, Greg Gurenlian says he wants the program to be a challenge. You can see that in the workout's name, according to the Urban Dictionary, "brawlic" means you've got to have diesel-like strength.

“The idea is to use as much muscle as possible and burn as much fat as possible but to kind of focus on performance first. If you train somebody to be a good athlete and to use a lot of muscle they are obviously going to look good afterwards,” said Gurelian. “Athletes look good, have low fat and they have a lot of muscle so that's the way you train them.”

Participants say the strength-building interval workout not only puts them to the test, but it also helps build endurance.

“You are using your total body. You are using it in a way that is very functional so it definitely hits on those areas,” said Sondi Carter.

“We want to increase strength and at the same time we want to be able to use those muscles for long periods of time and without fatigue. This type of exercise accomplishes those goals,” said Ari Frendman.

It's probably no surprise that Operation Brawlic uses the old school approach, because Gurenlian says the key to any successful workout is to stick to the basics.

“I don't really believe in the cute stuff. I don't believe in the gimmicks this stuff is around still because it works,” said Gurenlian. “It worked back then and it works today and it is all about effort, how much effort you put into is how much you are going to get out of it.”
