After more than a dozen years on Broadway, the groundbreaking rock musical "Rent" had its last performance on Sunday night.

"Rent" opened in 1996 and went on to win multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for best drama.

The play also launched the careers of several actors in the original company, including Jesse L. Martin, Taye Diggs, and Daphne Rubin-Vega.

"It feels like being a mother," said original cast member Daphne Rubin-Vega. "You can do your best, then you have to let it go. You have to let other people have that same kind of experience, which is going to be less than you had because they're not giving birth to it."

"Rent's" last performance will live on for posterity, though. A film of the show will be released in movie theatres on September 24th.
