The New York State Department of Labor has launched a brand-new job search Web site. NY1's Employment reporter Asa Aarons filed the following report.

Those who are looking for a job can stand in line at employment fairs, check out the "Help Wanted" section in newspapers, or utilize the upgraded, user-friendly New York State Department of Labor's job bank on its Web site.

State DOL Commissioner Colleen Gardner says the job bank is packed with plenty of leads.

"We've got about 85,000 jobs listed already and we expect that will expand," says Gardner.

It's not just about the quantity of jobs, but the quality of job access. In this system, the information flows both ways, making it useful to job providers and job seekers.

"They can post their resume, they can set up an account, save it and the nice thing is it's portable. You can access your account from any computer," says Gardner.

One feature provides instant access to newly-open jobs. As soon as a subscribing company posts an opening, it goes from its Web site into the bank. Job seekers can even program the Web site to alert them when certain job openings appear.

DOL officials are hoping the database will become an even greater resource for employers.

"Even if employers aren't looking for someone right now, a lot of employers go to our Web site and they peruse the Web site to see if there's any talent out there. We've got a lot of talent in our database," says Gardner.

Visit www.laborny.jobs to open a free account and upload a resume. Users can look for job leads by interest, set up how and when they will be alerted to new openings and give permission for employers to view their resume.

"It's up and running. People can access it 24/7," says Gardner.

It is a smart, intuitive system using the latest technology that is now available for all.
