Now you can cruise like a Viking around the North Atlantic. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report. If you're looking for an adventurous way to wind up your summer, expedition cruises can have you chilling out like a Viking.
Hurtigruten, an expedition cruise line that sails to the ends of the Earth, is floating out a slew of sales on some late-season voyages along the 1,250-mile west coast of Norway. Considered more of a placid sailing, it covers the mail route between fjords, fishing villages and cities along the way.
Two passengers share a cabin for the price of one fare on most sailings between September and December, starting at $680 per person on the six-day voyage.
If you prefer an all-inclusive deal, then opt for the "Norwegian Coastal Value Package," which combines air, a night in Oslo or Bergen and the cruise on six-, seven- and 12-day sailings through September. Prices range from $2,359 to $4,129 per person.
Remaining eight- and 15-day sailings to Greenland in August and September are also on sale with savings of 25 percent, including a bonus of two free nights in Copenhagen.
For those with more time, a repositioning cruise from Greenland to New York City embarks on September 22, with savings up to 67 percent. The 18-day voyage includes a flight from New York to Copenhagen with one overnight in the Danish capital, a charter flight to Greenland for a cruise, continuing south through Canada and then sailing into New York harbor.
The September 22 departure has fares of $4,249 to $7,249 per person. All bookings must be made by August 31 at www.hurtigruten.us.
Now here's a D'Elia's Deal you don't want to miss on a last minute Greenland-only sailings if you are going solo. Single travelers won't have to pay a supplement when traveling alone, representing a savings upwards of 47 percent.
