The MTA board is expected to meet Wednesday to discuss what fare increases and service cuts may have to be implemented later this year on top of the ones already in motion.
The agency is already implementing the next phase of its so-called "Doomsday Budget" by sending letters to union leaders informing them of the first round of layoffs.
In all, 1,100 transit workers will get pink slips.
The MTA has said that even after this round of cuts and fare hikes, it will still face a $621 million deficit this year.
In this first round of layoffs, the MTA will cut 350 bus operators,
100 bus maintainers and 30 subway station supervisors.
MTA board members recently called a meeting with union officials. But the biggest union, Transport Workers Union Local 100, boycotted it.
The TWU's contract expired in January and is currently in binding arbitration. The agency has said there just isn't any money for raises.
