The city already outlaws the blocking of an intersection, and now police will crack down on drivers who contribute to gridlock.

Starting Wednesday at noon, extra traffic agents will fine drivers up to $115 for blocking the box.

A new law went into effect in July enabling Traffic Enforcement Agents as well as police to write such tickets.

Agents will have new handheld devices which scan information from the registration sticker and print the ticket.

Last week, 111 tickets were issued in a pilot program.
