Officials will be able to pinpoint the exact location of underground 911 calls once cell phone service is added to the subway system.
Transit Wireless will hook up each station with signal amplifiers, which service a smaller area than above-ground towers. The system is expected to be installed in about four years.
Individual cell phone carriers would then be able to sign deals with Transit Wireless to get their signals added to the system.
