While the Bronx may have escaped the heavy winds and the damage that accompanied Tuesday morning's storm, when it came to the rain and transit delays, the borough got more than its fair share. Riders vented their frustrations with NY1's Dean Meminger.

Commuters at 180th Street were steamed: no trains and no buses meant no work.

"This is crazy,” said one rider. “This is a shame. This is what the city gives us? I got to go to work. I work at the hospital and my boss doesn't want to hear what I am saying."

Straphangers were furious that the Number 2 and the Number 5 trains were not running. They were told to take the express bus instead. But those buses were packed, and would not pick up any more passengers.

"There should be a contingency plan,” said another commuter. “This is not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last. So the next time we will have to suffer again. We are tax payers; we shouldn’t have to wait three hours to get to work."

All of the waiting, along with the heat and humidity, was really getting to some people.
But one man simply says commuters should expect that severe downpours and flooding will cause massive delays.

"It is a part of New York,” he said. “You just have to learn to deal with it and that is it."

For another commuter, dealing with it meant convincing a friendly New Yorker to take him downtown for free.

"I'm trying to get to work that's all,” he said. “Trying to get to work."

Eventually trains started running, but they didn't go far. Passengers say they were not ready for a mess like this. Even getting information from transit officials that appeared on NY1 and other news outlets didn't prepare them.

"I watched [the news] this morning and the gentleman from the MTA came on and said if you can wait 45 or 30 minutes, wait,” said a commuter. “And I waited, and waited."
