The city will soon be breaking ground for the 7 subway line extension, but some transit advocates want part of the plan changed.
Members of the New York City Transit Riders Council want the MTA to build the 10th Avenue and 41st Street station with the rest of the extension. Right now the plan is to build only the shell of that station, and complete it later on for financial reasons.
But the Transit Riders Council says in the long run, it will save money to build it now.
"The station will cost at least double to defer it and perhaps triple, depending on how long you will defer it, and there will always be a reason to not do it,” said NYC Transit Riders Council chair Andrew Albert. "It makes fiscal sense to build it while you are building the rest of the line."
The MTA says now that there's a new executive director at the agency they will be taking a fresh look at all the transportation projects on the table.
Work on the 7 line extension is expected to begin in late spring and is scheduled to be completed by 2013.
