LIRR, Metro-North Smoking Ban To Be Strictly Enforced

Starting Wednesday, Metropolitan Transportation Authority police will begin enforcing a strict smoking ban on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North.
This ends a three-month grace period for the law, which took effect in November,
Smoking is prohibited on outdoor platforms, ticketing and boarding areas of terminals and stations.
Anyone caught smoking faces a fine of up to $50, a jail term of up to 30 days, or both.
