A push to ban eating on the subways does not have the support of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's new chief.
MTA Chairman Joe Lhota says such a ban would severely impact minority communities.
He says he's watched too many children eating breakfast on the train to support a food ban.
The bill is sponsored by State Senator Bill Perkins of Harlem and calls for violators to be fined fine up to $250.
Perkins has said a food ban would help control the growing rat population in the subway.
