A new bill in the state Assembly would clarify that drivers can indeed move from one spot to the next without feeding the meter each time.

However, Brooklyn Assemblyman William Colton said his bill should not be needed because there is no rule preventing drivers from using an unexpired “Muni-Meter" receipt in multiple locations.

Colton introduced the law because he has been hearing from drivers who say they’re getting ticketed for just that reason.

He also said 311 operators have been telling callers they're not allowed to use the same receipt more than once.

In a statement, officials at the Department of Transportation said, "We are in the process of updating the rules to make clearer that Muni-Meter receipts may be used at additional locations, provided those areas have the same parking rates and regulations."
