City cab drivers are demanding refunds for damage to their vehicles because of potholes.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers said a press conference in Inwood, Manhattan on Thursday that potholes are causing accidents and destroying tires, costing drivers a lot of money in repairs and lost revenue when their cars are in the shop.

Drivers who have already had their damage fixed are being urged to file a claim form with the city.

"If the roads are in bad shape, we can't do our business," said Fernando Mateo of the Federation of Taxi Drivers. "There's a lot of people out there who depend on taxis to get from point A to point B. But every time you turn a corner, there's a canyon."

"It's very dangerous," said a driver. "You're driving on the Cross Bronx Expressway and you stop to avoid a pothole, but the car behind you hits you from behind."

The city says its working as quickly as possible to fill the potholes.

According to the Department of Transportation, it takes about three to six days to fix a pothole after a complaint is filed, which is longer than previous years because there are more to fix this winter.

To file a claim form, go to comptroller.nyc.gov. To report a pothole, call 311 or visit nyc.gov/dot.
