Small children could soon be required to have their own seats on planes.
The National Transportation Safety Board is suggesting that the Federal Aviation Administration require all passengers, including small children, to have their own seats and seat belts. Children under the age of two are currently allowed to sit on an adult's lap during flights.
Similar recommendations have been submitted by the NTSB over the past two decades, only to be turned back.
The renewed push comes after seven children were killed in a small plane crash in Montana in March of last year. Investigators say several of the children were found far from the plane, suggesting they weren't properly restrained.
An FAA spokeswoman says the agency will look at the recommendation, but has no immediate plans to alter its guidelines.
