The Department of Transportation is hoping some new changes will make parking more convenient at the Staten Island Ferry terminal.

Drivers will now be able to swipe their credit cards at new Muni-Meters at the St. George Ferry lots and then display their receipt in their windshields.

The old meters were coin operated and people needed to put in the number for their parking spot. They will also have to display their receipt in their windshields.

So far, the new system has been receiving mixed reviews.

"We've used it one time since they made the change, and it's much more convenient for us. We don't have to worry about it, we'll bring our credit card with us so it makes it much easier to park here," said one visitor to Staten Island.

"It's not a safety issue. They're just looking to make more money if somebody forgets to display a ticket," said one Stapleton Heights resident.

Drivers can get a ticket if they don't display their receipt.

The DOT says it's hoping to convert all its lots to pay and display muni-metered lots in the future.
