Cuts to subway and bus service citywide went into effect Sunday, but today was the first weekday commute where riders had to deal with the changes.

The W and V trains are no more. Both made their final runs on Friday.

The Q is now extending to Astoria to replace the W, the M line has a new route covering some stops previously serviced by the V. The G train now terminates at Court Square in Long Island City.

"I took the M to work every day, so losing the M is absolutely horrible,” said a straphanger.

"It's really inconvenient, not only for me, but for the public and everyone else out here,” said another.

"Everything is going to be more crowded,” said a third. “I mean, it is going to be more crowded; it's a fact."

And while bus stops are still there, approximately three-dozen routes are not – including the B71 and B77.

"Without public transportation, how are we going to get around the city? So, of course, I don't like the fact that the bus is cut, no," said a Brooklyn bus rider.

"That's going to make it very rough for us because many times it gives us access to Cobble Hill or to the other neighborhoods," said another. "I guess we'll have to take the train."

"They don't have money, I mean, they got to do something," said a third. "Either you put more buses on or less."

The MTA says the cuts save about $100 million, and are necessary to close its budget gap, estimated at about $800 million.
