The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is switching fuel for all its buses, a move the agency says will save tens of millions of dollars a year.

NY1 has learned the agency plans to award a five-year contract to Sprague Energy worth $700 million. If approved by the MTA Board, that company will supply the agency with 55-million gallons a year of ultra-low sulfur diesel.

The MTA currently uses ultra-low sulfur kerosene. The agency paid more than $200 million for a one-year contract with Sprague last year.
