Gay rights advocates in New York scored a legal victory today.
Same-sex couples cannot get married in New York, but the state will continue to recognize couples who were married in places where gay marriage is legal.
The state appeals court decision is the latest in a string of court victories for same-sex marriage advocates.
Last year, Governor David Paterson issued an executive order saying state agencies should ensure the legal recognition of out of state same-sex marriages.
