An incoming State Senator from the Bronx is facing near-record fines for violating city campaign finance laws.
A state appellate court is upholding a City Campaign Finance board ruling that Pedro Espada Jr. racked up 22 violations during his failed bid for Bronx Borough President in 2001.
His campaign is being fined more than $61,000.
Espada is a member of the so-called "Gang of Three," a group of Democrats refusing to back party leader Malcolm Smith in the State Senate.
A spokesman for Espada did not return a phone call from NY1 seeking comment.
